Baliospermum montanum or Danti is a common medicinal plant that is mostly distributed in greater parts Northern and North-central parts of India (Especially sub-Himalayan areas – Kashmir to Meghalaya including Bihar, West Bengal, Chota Nagpur) & some areas Indomalesiya region.
However, Nowadays Baliospermum montanum can be seen in some other countries. Danti well grows in shade, humid climate, drain soil & between 6.5 PH 7.5 PH soil. These most areas tropical & sub-tropical which receiving annual rainfall more than 1000mm.
Danti is an undershrub, which grows maximum up to 1.8 meters in heights, an abundance of plant branches is erected from the roots. Oblong – ovate, Sinuate-toothed leaves are 12-25cm long and 6-13 cm wide. On the Base of the leaves, Beside the stem can see two tiny thorns & apex are acute. Generally, the upper leaves are small, and the lower leaves are larger and sometimes palmately 3-5 lobed.
Axillary racemed Flowers are unisexual most of them male flowers and there are few female flowers. Flowers occur from August to March. Fruits can be seen after a month of flowering. Capsule-shape, mottled fruits 8-13mm long & oily seeds use for many medicinal purposes.

Medicinal Uses
Danti or Baliospermum montanum roots, leaves, seed, seed oils are used for treating many ailments since a long time ago.
In nature, roots are considered pungent & diuretic and it has carminative, anthelmintic, purgative properties. Its use for treating abdominal tumors, hemorrhoids, enlarged spleen, constipation, abdominal pain, piles, helminthic infestation. Roots contain baliospermin & montanin, in Ayurveda, it takes for treatments.
Further roots used for jaundice, dropsy, scabies.general anasarca, scabies, leucoedema. Paste prepared from the root is works for piles & swellings. Root and seed oil is cathartic and antidropsical.
Danti leaves are specially taken to treat asthma and leaves juice to apply on cuts, it helps to stop bleeding. Further leaves can be used as a bandage. The decoction of leaves has the purgative ability.
Seeds contain axillarenic acid it has active & purgative ability. In rheumatism, seed oils apply externally. Seeds help to treat as an antidote for snakebites.
